I don't know much about ACPI... but that method sounds to me like could be 
very inaccurate. I have noticed a very big difference in drain whether I am 
running text screens or running X.

That would imply a fixed discharge rate, which seems to me is not fixed.

I am totally new at dealing with laptops+FreeBSD... but perhaps others can 
validate my comments... and see how much their batteries drop in text mode.. 
vs X.. in a fixed amount of time. I think this would decide whether such a 
patch would be benefitial.
