I finally have ppp working from the machine dialing the connection, and automatically. That machine is n3lxx.cbr, a totally private net. Trouble is, I can't get the other machine, Journey2.cbr, to realize there's a route through n3lxx to the world. Here's the output of netstat -rn on journey2: Routing tables Internet: Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire default 192.168.64.2 UGSc 11 0 ed0 192.168.64 link#1 UC 0 0 192.168.64.1 127.0.0.1 UGHS 1 22 lo0 192.168.64.2 0:0:c0:e8:15:52 UHLW 12 15 ed0 598 224 link#1 UCS 0 0 Everything works fine from n3lxx, but I need the connectivity on journey2 for some sound experimentation. nslookup works fine from journey2, but seemingly nothing else will. rsh fails to hosts down the ppp line, but works to n3lxx.
