No need to spend time on it, just use the default imake rules.  If
people want their man pages uncompressed, they should change their
imake config files.

 * absolute pathname, or just the command name only.  Are there any
 * precedent cases?

I'm not sure what the problem is here.  mkfontdir's manpage says
either is fine. :)
