I worked out an update to gnutls 3.2, but during staging libtool relinks some libraries with -L/usr/local/lib appearing in the wrong place so it ends up linking these libraries with the installed libgnutls instead of the freshly built one. This is bad in this case because both libgnutls have a different .so version. The way to fix this ended up being rather ugly so instead I'm going to spend some time trying to figure out why libtool does this relinking sometimes and how that can be stopped. It's the cause of build problems in unclean environments for other ports too.
