The Release Series 2.1 is virtually dead. 2.2 has been established as a reliable, stable production system. The developers rarely bother to put any updates into 2.1 any more. I suspect that anyone who is still running 2.1 is in the "if it ain't broke; don't 'fix' it" mode of operation. If they make any OS changes, they would be likely to move to 2.2. The 2.1 sources will always be available by cvsup or extraction from the cvs tree which is on any of the 2.2.5 or later CD releases. Dropping the service will allow us to reclaim space and processing time on the CTM generator and many mirrors around the world. Therefore, I question the need to maintain this 2.1 CTM service. However, before I discontinue it, I do want to give the public a chance to comment. This proposal DOES NOT AFFECT the other distributions such as 2.2, current, etc. I would request that mirror sites attempt to notify your users if you think that they might be affected by the discontinuation of this service.
