They might choose not to log in then or something! > The -best- thing to present to a user before they login is: > "Username:" or "login:" and nothing else. So then do that! Maybe I shouldn't have changed the default gettytab, and I'll probably just go change it back since there's no need to make the change unnecessarily contraversal, but I think that the ABILITY to announce the release and architecture type in the login banner is a good idea.. In fact, I added it in response to someone who gritched that it wasn't immediately obvious. > The more I know about your system, the more likely I can break into it. > Especially if it is a FreeBSD 2.x machine when 2.x has been obsolete for > 3 or 4 years and I happen to have a list of bugs that were fixed 2 years > ago but this machine hasn't been updated. Well, people with such paranoias can simply not enable the feature. I'll change the default gettytab back to what it was so that an admin will have to specifically enable it. For admins, this information is USEFUL and not all of us are as worried about spies hiding under the beds.. Jordan
