before coding anything, it's a common usage to know the way to go.
for instance, I'm not sure there is a consensus about the way to
follow.  except if the consensus is just : ok, grab the NetBSD
framework, cut and past things from FreeBSD files to NetBSD files,
and go. this could be done in a few hours by almost anybody, but,
IMHO, is a waste of time until a good way is defined.
