If I undestand Chuck's suggestion right, you needed to add "USEOPENSSL=yes" and remove dependency on openssl port all together. Since you have openssl in base, you should not need the port. Did you remove the relevant line from BUILD_DEPENDS in libfwbuilder ? Did it build after that ?
