There are so many oddball interactions and cruft that builds up in the system that reinstalling fixes, it's a HUGE timesaver when troubleshooting systems compared to the preferred "what's making this happen?" investigative repairs. If you're fixing a client's computer it can really help on their bill too...2 hours of wipe/reinstall/driver hunting is better for most of them than 8 hours of googling, registry pruning, etc...especially if in the end you end up having to do the wipe/reinstall anyway. Windows just encourages the wipe/reinstall method because of it's quirks and sloppy management tools and security. Usually it's the biggest timesaver to do that. Of course, it depends on the circumstances. -Bart
