Either you just startx -- -bpp 16
or you put into /etc/XF86Config
Section "Screen"
Driver "Accel"
Device "Primary Card"
Monitor "Primary Monitor"
DefaultColorDepth 16
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
