If any one needed, the configuration needed for the pcic0 driver on a olivetti echo pro 200 is an address of 0xfcfc (that can be set on the kernel configuration). I let the IRQ=10. I have a CDROM distribution of FreeBSD 3.2 but the corresponding PAO kernel says it does not recognize the xircom card. I thus try to install the last PAO version (with 3.5 FreeBSD) over the network. The network card is the xircom creditcard ethernet adapter IIps Here is the steps I followed: Configuring the kernel : pcic0 --> address 0xfcfc The system says it recognize the pccard driver and ask me if I want to use it as an install media --> I answer yes It starts looking at probing the device and on the console F2 it writes: (note the message logger not found and /etc/pccard_ether) Card0: assign xe0 iobase 0x300 irq 9 maddr 0x00d4000 msize 0x4000 xe: probing for unit 0 xe0: attach Xeo Xircom CE2 bonding version 0x7 Xe0 Ethernet address 00:80:c7:e9:83 logger not found /etc/pccard_ether: not found DEBUG: found a netword device named lp0 DEBUG: found a netword device named xe0 I then continue the install process (standard : configuring my disc and my partition,...) I am then ask wether I should config my interface. I say yes for the xe0 interface, and no DHCP, then provide the IP, gateway,DNS and domain name. If I give the wrong values, the system tells me it cannot find the server (I use the pAO server since I want pao distrib) --> I think the network is set successfully when I am not wrong : Switching to the other console I get the folowing messages: DEBUG: ifconfig xe0 inet 129.194.33.206 netmask 255.255.248.0xe0: init xe0: enable_intr DEBUG: Adding default route to 129.blabla.add net default: gateway 129.... xe0: watchdog timeout; resetting card xe0: stop xe0: disable_intr xe0: hard_reset xe0: setmedia xe0: disable_intr xe0: init xe0: setmedia xe0: disable_intr xe0: soft_reset xe0: silicon revision = 0 xe0: disable_intr xe0: init xe0: enable_intr I have seen on mailing list that the watchdog message means an irq conflict but it seems here not to be the case: the irq assigned is 9 and I have no device handle by irq 9 in my dmesg (FreeBSD 3.2) When I try to ping the IP number from another machine, nothing comes. My questions then : =================== Why does the system look at /etc/pccard_ether (begining) since I ask to overide the current version of my FreeBSD box. Where am I wrong ? (many places maybe) What to check now ? I've seen that some of the xircom ethernet credit card is not known to be supported. How can I know if mine is that one ? Is there any supported card I could buy to avoid this kind of problem (i.e. 2 different cards with very small difference in their name). Any help would be appreciate .... Since I am not a system guru, please, do not answer in hexa.... :-) F. __o _`\<,_ ------------------------------------------------ (_)/ (_) Franck Thollard ISSCO, universite de Geneve 40, bvd du pont d'Arve CH-1211 Geneva 4 Tel: 0 (+041) 22 705 8683 Fax: 0 (+041) 22 705 8689 Mel : thollard@issco.unige.ch Oueb : http://www.sfs.nphil.uni-tuebingen.de/~thollard/ ____________________________________________________ When everything failed, read the manual.
