Close.  You need to enter an MX record for your domain as well:

whickhamcomp.ac.uk.	MX	5	ser.whickhamcomp.ac.uk.

This tells the rest of DNS-world to send mail @whickhamcomp.ac.uk to
the mail exchanger ser.whickhamcomp.ac.uk.
