Yeah, found out in the mean time ;-)
Note that I came to this from a completely different point of view where I
need the ppp packet without any framing (i.e. starting with the protocol
identifier). I've just been curious, as the RFC realy is not that clear.

Good plan. For extra joy you might try merging the NetBSD version into
that as well (it has IPv6 support). If you punt on that (which I surely
could understand), I'll take the opposite route and merge your result into
the NetBSD version.
