This is an interesting discussion, but my decision has been made: I will
use the ccd for striping, and I have been told that it works well in a
newsserver.
Could anyone answer my question about the disklabels please  ? I cannot
experiment with that, I must setup the ccd, make a filesystem and be up
and running again within, say, an hour.
