Btw. mailing lists using mailman, that did not remove the digest option, should default to mime digest, if digest is selected. http://www.list.org/mailman-member/node28.html This way a digest reader can reply to an individual email, by keeping the subject and thread. The Evolution mailing list followed my suggestion, before they removed the digest option.
