It segfaults immediately, and the gdb trace is unenlightening: (gdb) where #0 0x2864ec95 in strncmp () from /usr/lib/libc.so.5 #1 0x0 in ?? () I have cleaned out and recompiled everything it depends on a couple of times. -- Michael D.
