I loaded FreeBSD 2.1.0 (in a user configuration) on a computer with about a
500MB drive in a dual boot mode with DOS. Both BSD and DOS work well.

When I tried to load BSD on another computer (dual boot mode) with a 1083.8
MB drive the system seems to load but will not boot. Some preliminary
verbage is displayed and then the "Boot:" is displayed (seems normal so
far). Then the "bar" is displayed but does not "spin" - the system just
hangs. Yes, DOS still boots!

The controller is a Promise EIDE2300 PLUS VESA Local Bus with on board BIOS
that takes over the hard disk fuctions from the mother board BIOS. The disk
drive is a Western Digital Caviar AC21000. This combination works well with
DOS and Windows 3.1 .

I realise that this disk controller is not on the "supported" list, but does
anyone have any ideas? Has anyone used this controller with FreeBSD? Or
any compatable drivers?
