Both drives broke down in the end. I got them replaced, and bought some new SATA cables. Now everything boots fine with 6.3 (upgraded in the meantime to 7.x) Possible causes: - bad batch of disks. (2 died & were replaced under warranty) - sata cables (replaced with beter quality cables that 'clip' into the drive Thanks to everyone looking into this. Christophe
