Did "make -d cdlmpvx" selecting "MATE-Terminal". No noticeable specifics ab= out terminal choice in debug output (other than echoing Makefile lines). Then did "make -d cdlmpvx install". Again - no noticeable specifics about terminal choice. So - I don't know how/why I wound up with "GNOME-terminal" when I tried the latest update of secpanel. Yes, I have something that specifies "x11_gnome-terminal" (probably the GnuPG pinentry port) though the "gnome-terminal" port is not installed.
