I would suggest moving to 2.1.5R (the latest and greatest) to save yourself
the trouble of upgrading later!

It depends on whether you just want the "binaries" (i.e. the executable
versions of all the programs) or the sources, also.  Likewise, if you
want to use X Windows or not.  There's a big difference in the amount
of disk space required for "the bare minimum" vs. "full blown"
installation.

No, though this will save you considerable time and space (especially 
compared to floppies!)  It's quite handy to be able to put it back into
it's jewel case and sit it on a shelf instead of cluttering up a hard
disk with all these files, etc.)
