As well as your missing esfw7c.bin firmware, I see that epsonscan2.rules al= so lists two other firmware files that aren't included: esfw0111.bin and esfw86.bin. The firmware files are installed by the graphics/epsonscan2-non-free-plugin port, but those three are not included. es2intif and the firmware are all distributed as binary by Epson, so yes, "opaque". A quick check shows that 6.7.70.0 is still the latest version available.
