Funny but sometimes BSD list mails fall through the cracks in the procmail filters. Ah well. Have you tried setting the screen font to a different code set? I think default is the 437 character set, whereas today the ISO 850 is more appropriate. I've also seen some pages dealing with these topics mentioned on this list.
