I even know where these terms came from. They're typewriter te= rms .

When you reached the end of the line on the = paper being typed, you had to crank a lever to roll the paper one line up (= LINE FEED)
and use the lever to return (push) the carriage to the= first position of the new line (CARRIAGE RETURN).
