Well, of all the other problems the worst I had was with installation of
ld-elf.so.1: somehow install -c -s managed to simply remove
/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1 (consequences are obvious :-(). Don't know if
it's already changed (or perhaps it was just my lack) but perhaps you'd
better install it manually.
