Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy the last few days.

I actually think that it's more than a documentation issue. If this solves the issue, the defaults for periodic should be changed; dma has now replaced sendmail and it feels like this fell through the cracks. Even if this doesn't solve the problem, I don't think everything is working as intended. You should probably file a bug so that somebody more knowledgeable can have a look.
