I just finished updating my laptop's ports and something appears to broken between gdm and hal. First, here's the versions that I currently have installed: gdm-2.20.4_5 GNOME 2 version of xdm display manager hal-0.5.11.r2_5 Hardware Abstraction Layer for simplifying device access hal-info-20080317 Additional FDI files to further classify HAL devices Now, what happens is that with hald running, gdm starts, draws the stimpled X background and hangs. The machine is still running, but gdm goes no further. Without hald running, gdm starts up just fine. Here's gdm running with hald also running: root 64711 37.4 1.6 36976 32816 p0 S 1:43PM 0:01.65 /usr/local/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt9 (Xorg) root 64356 2.4 0.3 13432 5872 p0 S+ 1:43PM 0:00.17 /usr/local/sbin/gdm-binary --nodaemon root 64520 0.0 0.3 13432 6124 p0 S 1:43PM 0:00.01 /usr/local/sbin/gdm-binary --nodaemon haldaemon 59388 0.0 0.2 6772 4404 ?? S 1:42PM 0:00.16 hald-addon-mouse-sysmouse: /dev/psm0 (hald-addon-mouse-sy) root 60154 0.0 0.1 5488 2124 ?? S 1:42PM 0:00.14 hald-addon-mouse-sysmouse: /dev/ums0 (hald-addon-mouse-sy) root 61449 0.0 0.1 3596 1556 ?? S 1:42PM 0:00.05 hald-addon-storage: /dev/acd0 (hald-addon-storage) Here's gdm running without hald: root 56387 30.5 1.7 38768 34568 p0 S 1:42PM 0:02.01 /usr/local/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt9 (Xorg) gdm 57675 6.2 0.5 22336 10392 ?? Any suggestions on how to fix this?
