Yet, designing and producing a community driven smartphone is difficult because it costs a lot of money. 5G chips has many royalties to deal with and it's not that sure that Qualcomm will sell his modems to an open source project. Raspberry PI is a notable exception but: 1. It's not an open source platform 2. It's a semi-finished product and doesn't come with a case 3. I really would like to read the CE and FCC test reports.... The open source community might start an open source phone with, at least initially, a WiFi interface.
