Cc: freebsd-questions@freefall.freebsd.org Sender: owner-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk This first model of the ASUS P6 with Intels Orion chipset is just that - first model. The board looks great - runs great, but could be for the more techie guy than average PCer. The BIOS still has a way to go as well. The price is - WOW! but coming down. Basically - the P/I-P6RP4 from ASUS is: Single CPU Socket 8 with VRM for 150-200MHz Intel 82450 Orion Chipset 4 32 bit PCI (one with media bus shared) 3 16 bit ISA 4 72pin SIMM socket upto 512MB, supports 2:1 interleave or noninterleave CMD 646 PCI EIDE Controller, 2 s 16550, 1 p ECP EPP, IrDA TX/RX Header, 1FDD CMD Supports DMA 2 and PIO 3,4 BIOS AMI PlugNPlay Flash w/NCR SCSI This board is the stnd. Baby AT size and NOT the ATX format that Intel was pushing. The Gigabyte board is not Gigabytes first Pentium Model and much more than that it is a great board. All the features to compete head to head with Asus' P55TP4XE. Buy the Gigabyte - you will be happy with it and FreeBSD. I have personally run all FreeUn*ces on it, as well as Solaris x86, WinNT, Win3.11, Win'95 - never a problem or concern with the board. efarris@surfusa.com ============================================================================== Eb Farris http://www.surfusa.com/ Melbourne, FL visit http://www.surfusa.com/mall.html for more on motherboards efarris@surfusa.com ** FreeBSD ** =============================================================================
