It is not possible to get this system into single mode, because it has = to be up, always. it can have a maximum downtime of maybe 45 seconds, which is too long to = go into single mode and compile stuff. If you CVSUP the sources to 4.x-STABLE look at /usr/src/UPDATING and read EVERYTHING in the file. If I were you I would absorb everything, write down every single = procedure you would do in order to get this done and then post this with a "am I = correct" message.
