If I am not the only of-the-wall person who has made this mistake, maybe at a minimum a note should be in the various config files, or at least in the notes stating that it's strongly advised one not use the -O2 flag while compiling the OS, as it can cause things to break. Guess I just got lucky on the Intel boxes, so live and learn.
