I recieved the same error message when using a cybex kvm switch
(autoview commander) to control my FreeBSD box. The only way I have
been able to get rid of the message is to enter the kvm switch
configuration, then there is an option to resync the keyboard and
mouse (at least on mine there is :^) )

If you search the mail archives, there may be more info on this. I
think I asked the same question sometime around last december.
Basically I think that the resync option was the workaround, but no
one who responded knew for sure why the error was coming up, just that
we all had kvm switches in common.

If you aren't using a kvm switch though, hopefully someone else will
answer.
