When I cp'd > the binaries from my production box to my laptop I did this: That's essentially what a package does too. The port executes ${PORTSDIR}/databases/postgresql/scripts/createuser. I don't know why the package can't do the same as the package executes other scripts which are included. Its my guess packages do not create user id's as a matter of security policy, not because its impossible or hard.
