Ok. That makes sense as I *cannot* get rsh/rlogin to work at all no matter what I have tried in pam.conf. By putting in entries like those for login, rsh will prompt for password (but the leading p missing) and it echoes the typed in password and does not go any further. 99.99% of time I use ssh/scp so it no real problem but on occasion dont want the overhead of encryption (say while behind firewall and large rdist/rsync). I am concerned that *maybe* the r-utils *are* broken in 4.2-beta and it is not misconfiguration on my part. I would have thought if they were broken that someone would have said something before now - but then again most people probably use ssh/scp. (and the supplied inetd.conf has r-utils off by default) There was one email on stable from 3 Nov that indicated problem with rsh http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=1205877+1207103+/usr/local/www/db/text/2000/freebsd-stable/20001105.freebsd-stable Can anyone confirm that rshd/rlogind works on a 4.2beta machine? thanks tonym To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
