This thread has occurred twice in the last three years -- how to improve ports so we can build more than one package from a port. The scripts used on bento are very much available in ports/Tools/portbuild. Granted, though, there are some changes in the scripts currently being used on bento that haven't been committed yet. And granted, the scripts aren't exactly made easy for others to adopt. However, I know it's quite possible and not really difficutl because I've personally set them up myself on my machine.
