Are you going through a gateway/firewall. You may need to open port 6699 on the firewall, or alternatively in nap.conf you can specify port 0 which bypasses firewalls (don't ask me how). I used to work at an ISP where our entire operation was based on FreeBSD and when I set port 0 I got right through. Also if your still running windoze I might suggest napigator. It will give you a listing of every napster server there is by name.
