I'm happy for every port that removes USE_GCC=yes (not the least since it 
makes upgrading the default version of GCC harder, even though Lorenzo is
now taking care).

Just why was/is USE_GCC=yes useless nowadays? Did you mean this in 
general? Or did you mean it's not necessary for *this* port any longer?
