Found another useful tool for logging system load. It's called Munin and it's in ports as sysutils/munin-node sysutils/munin-main. It's nifty -- uses rrdtool to graph various things. Some of the plugins are shabby and need some work to get running but the system load plugin works fine out of the box. -- James.
