I'm not sure why nv would not recognise that, but the 'nvidia' driver 
(/usr/ports/x11/nvidia-driver) might also be worth a try if you have no 
objections to closed source drivers, that is. Else I suppose you could try 
the 'vesa' driver but it has limited functionality/performance.
