To ppp error log is in /var/log/...this will save you a _lot_ of headaches debugging ppp. FYI, Sendmail 'works' more or less out of the box, but you probably want to tweak the config anyway. I've not ever heard of anyone needing to recompile a kernel to get X working, however, configuration is not what I'd call easy if you're doing this for the first time. (tip /stand/sysinstall, Configure -> Xfree86 (off the top of my head, but it's there somewhere) as for iceWM, it's probably in /usr/ports/x11-wm. Good luck. -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-newbies@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-newbies@FreeBSD.ORG] On Behalf Of Lute Mullenix Sent: Friday, December 07, 2001 9:26 AM To: freebsd-newbies@freebsd.org Subject: It's started Well, from what I've seen this is the place to post this. Just installed FreeBSD 4.3 from the CD that came with Ms. Anderson's book, and so far so good, doing a dual boot on a referbed IBM NetVista that I picked up. Been doing some reading, getting a few things set up, still not online with it yet, but that's coming, you will be the first to know when I get it going. Have to figure out how to get ppp up, and configure sendmail. Have installed pine and mutt, and done some set up on them already. Have not been able to get X up yet, but have a feeling that I need to redo the kernel before I can do that, this system has the Intel i810 onboard video. Will also need to find IceWM somewhere, as that is my preferred window manager. Well that's about where I am, and will keep posting as things progress. Any tips or pointers as to what steps I should take would be appreciated. Lute _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
