it might be helpful to get a look at your output from dmesg.  Also the 
messages you get in DOS when the CDROM is detected.  

Perhaps the CDROM is an IDE one (in which case you need the wcd 
drivers).  I have a SoundBlaster 16 with an IDE CD interface.
