My problem is as follows:

I have Linux 2.2.1 and an Adaptec 2940 U2W and three U2 disks on it.
I can use the first and the third disk of the channel but not the second
one. I have the error:

Feb 16 20:55:50 shaun kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 11504, scsi0, channel 0, id 2, lun 0 Read (6) 00 02 d2 78 00
Feb 16 20:55:51 shaun kernel: SCSI host 0 abort (pid 11504) timed out - resetting
Feb 16 20:55:51 shaun kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.

I have swaped the second and third disk and the problem is still the
same with the second disk.

I also have two other 2940 U2W cards with 4 and 8 disks on them. The
problem is roughly the same.

with 3 disks (number is rank on the SCSI bus)
1 ok
2 not ok
3 ok

with 4 disks
1 ok
2 not ok
3 not ok
4 ok

with 8 disks (in an external box)
1 ok
2 not ok
3 not ok
4 ok
5 ok
6 not ok
7 not ok
8 ok

I use 'dd of=/dev/null if=/dev/sd?' to test my disks.
The disks works fine on the UW internal connector of the 2940 cards.

Where should I look at ?
I have upgraded the Adaptec firmware from 2.10 to 2.11 but that does
not cure the problem.
Is it a problem with:
- the cables
- the terminators
- the Linux driver

Thank you
