i seem to remember that for some kind of licensing problem, gs only
outputs uncompressed PDF. Am i wrong ?

Ironically, the reason the above people like pdf so much is that
files are smaller than uncompressed postscript (especially postscript
generated by 50-100MB applications)... but ok, this is a viable
alternative, thanks for the pointer.
