I thought I confirmed Nate's suggestion before writing the original message (not to have done so would have been a major brain lapse). I checked it again before writing this, and the suspend feature is in fact well and truely dead, in X and out of X (after a Ctrl-Alt-F1), with line power (as it should be) and without (as it shouldn't). -- David E.
