I can also do a CTRL ALT DELETE. After syncing disks the system stops responding. From time to time there is still some hd activity, but maybe that's the controller itself. Something like: Syncing disks, syncing disks, buffers remaining 2 1 1 0 Uptime: 10m10s -> FREEZE <-- Any ideas ? The problem happens with 6.2-RELEASE. I see some unhandled mpt events during the boot phase. Maybe it's mpt0 which blocks or locks up the system after each boot ? A very strange issue is, that if I press the power-off button after such a lookup, I don't have any graphic output after the reboot, after a poweron on the same button until I plug the power out and turn it on again. Something is fundamentally broken here. But why does linux work here ? Martin Some facts: - Linux 2.4 or Linux 2.6 works perfectly, an acpi reboot works fine there. - The server is brand new. And no - there is no new bios upgrade available, we already checked that. - It happens with or without acpi - Disable or enable acpi in the loader doesn't help. It looks like the freeze happens before acpi can do anything. Even if ACPI_DEBUG is set, but doesn't help anything here. hw.acpi.handle_reboot=1 has no effect. After syncing disks we don't see any acpi messages. I don't see any output after syncing disk, even if hw.acpi.handle_reboot=1 is set. - hw.acpi.disable_on_reboot hasn't any effect too ... - The box has one dual core processor. It doesn't change anything if the GENERIC kernel is booted or the SMP kernel is used.
