1)	Make sure they are enabled in your /etc/tts file.

2)	Make sure init knows about it (if you just barely enabled
	them) by kill -HUP 1 as root.

3)	Use the 'alt' and function keys 1-3 to get alternate
	consoles.  If you are running X, use 'ctrl+alt' and the
	function keys.

4)	DON'T enable all your virtual consoles -- leave one disabled
	for X to use.
