I break into the OF prompt then type: boot cd:,\boot\loader cd:0 It looks like it starts the loader ok and it looks like it does it's thing = and starts the kernel but then after just a second or two, the kernel fails= with the following messages: fatal kernel trap: =A0 =A0 exception =3D 0x4 (instruction storage trap) =A0 =A0 virtual address =3D 0x5121c8 =A0 =A0 srr0 =3D 0x5121c8 =A0 .... and so on. I found a suggestion about pausing in the loader and shutting off fireware = (slot 14) using a set command.=A0=A0=A0I tried doing that but it made no di= fference. I tried with both 8.0, 7.2 (and a quick test with 6.2) but none of them wor= ked. Should FreeBSD install work on an IMAC G3 700Mhz or am I beating a dead hor= se?=20 I also tried updating the IMAC firmware to the latest (1.4.9) but it made n= o difference.=A0=20 The IMAC does boot OSX just fine.=A0=A0=A0It also booted a Linux install CD= (YellowDog I think...).=A0=A0=A0So, I'm pretty sure the HW is functioning = properly... I did boot the FreeBSD 8.0 install CD on my eMAC (1.42Ghz) and it started u= p into the installer without problem.=20 _______________________________________________ freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ppc To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ppc-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" You should have::=A0 >setenv boot-device cd:0 > mac-boot for the loader. I'm still using the 9.0 SNAPSHOT. I've had better luck with it. There is the Howto posted by the PPC freebsd developers and another which I= posted at the freebsd forums. Look for freebsd on the powermac g-series in= other architectures. Follow the basic instructions.=20 Is it Openfirmware you are using or not? If it isn't,=A0 then I think=3D- not sure- that open or net bsd would work = on it. Don't quote me on this as being exact. =0A=0A=0A
