Hello! I try to install FreeBSD 4.4-release (from cdrom and via ftp) on a proliant 350 (compaq). I already succeeded on a very similar machine, but this one always hangs on the initial bootup (as far as I can guess just before init starts --- that's when characters switch from bright to normal, isn't it). Ok. What's up? I have two proliant 350. Both have PromiseU100TX2 and Gigabit Ethernet in addition to the standard equipment coming from compaq. The differences are: machine 1 has 512MByte Ram, 4 Disks connected to Promise Controller. machine 2 has 128MByte, 1 Disk, and a 16 Port Serial IO Card. machine2 installs fine, out of the box from cd. Period. machine1 hangs during initial bootup while printout from kernel is still bright. If You need any additional information to help on this toppic, please tell me. (I already tried to remove the gigabit ethernet nic, doesn't change anything, as does reconfiguring the kernel before it starts --- that will change the the last message before the hang of course if for example parallel port support is removed.)
