There's an obvious solution there.  If this crash is causing so much
pain, it would be a good idea to find out what's causing it.

It looks like you have seriously broken your file system.  Which file
system is it?  Boot in single user mode and do 'fsck -y /'.  If that
works, you at least have hope.
