The following reply was made to PR i386/175688; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Anton Shterenlikht <mexas@bristol.ac.uk> To: bug-followup@FreeBSD.org, crazyalexnt@inbox.ru Cc: Subject: Re: i386/175688: after the system is constantly being written to the log message: fbsd kernel: hdacc0: Unexpected unsolicited response with tag 0: 00000000 Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2013 20:21:08 +0000 I have something very similar. This has started in MAY-2012. I haven't filled a PR because I'm using a custom pci.c patch, provided by John Baldwin (because my BIOS is apparently broken), so I thought this issue is somehow related, but now I think that maybe not. Anyway, 1. This is amd64 laptop, HP Compaq 6715s, now at r245111M. This is important because the PR has been assigned to i386. I think this has to be reviewed. 2. My first report of the issue is at: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2012-May/034339.html This is a long thread. 3. John's patch, provided to fix my broken BIOS, is towards the beginning of this thread: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2012-May/033598.html 4. I still cannot boot without this patch. 5. So my sound works fine until I start X. For example I can do hear sound by sending some data to /dev/dsp, or I can play CD fine. As soon as I start X, the sound is gone, and I get lots of: Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000020 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00400001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 593310f0 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000020 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000020 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0030010d Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000005 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 80051f17 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0030010d Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000017 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 80051f17 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0030010d Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000018 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 80051f17 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0030010d Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000019 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 80051f17 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0030010d Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000008 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 80000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0030010d Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000001 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000018 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 80000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 last message repeated 55 times Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0000f948 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 0000f708 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00004340 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Unexpected unsolicited response from address 0: 00000000 Feb 5 19:37:46 mech-aslap239 last message repeated 15 times Feb 5 19:37:47 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Command timeout on address 0 Feb 5 19:37:47 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Reset setting timeout Feb 5 19:37:47 mech-aslap239 kernel: hdac0: Command timeout on address 0 and so on. My old report: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-x11/2012-June/012100.html Basically about the top quarter of the screen is not updated. The exact behaviour depends on the program, e.g. I might have xterm working correctly, but firefox and pdf not, and seemingly on the acceleration options (XAA vs EXA), but it never is fine.
