[0]1.	A concern that FreeBSD tends to "bind" for brief periods when
[0]	loaded...

[1]Can this is an IDE issue? I never saw anything like this until
[1]I configured an IDE mail server. That system pauses for seconds
[1]sometimes, and then continues. This is running -stable, syscons
[1]only (no X), no messages logged, etc. The echo stops going to
[1]the display, the ethernet activity is stopped, all in all it seems
[1]to be locked up for three or four seconds.

I just called the guy that reported this - he is a 100% SCSI shop,
mostly Adaptecs with the odd NCR. He didn't have model numbers of
the controllers handy. The drives are all Seagate 2G and 4G, some
Baracuda, all SCSI II, none wide.

My system where I have seen something that somewhat resembles his
description is a mixed IDE SCSI system, and when things bog, the hog
process and the binding process are both trying to get to the same
SCSI drive. The IDE is for swap and root and is idle during these events.

And in answer to someone elses' question, there was no tape I/O or
CD-ROM I/O active during these events on either system. Only SCSI disk.
